12.000 seat opera building

 

On the site for the Media and Cultural City Masterplan which is located close to the old city centre the Opera House plays a central role.

 

The concept of the building stems from both historic precedent in designing buildings in hot climates making use of shade, external loggias and also utilising natural cooling and day lighting using water and reflection.

 

The environmental challenges in designing a building which reduces the impact when moving between external heat and humidity to internal cooled environments have created an innovative yet playful aesthetic in this project.

 

The language of the canopies has been extended into the design of the Opera House, providing structural support and environmental control for the various volumes, spaces and activities inside the building.
